Here is another (updated) post from my obedient beauty days.
God has given women a powerful job. He has called us to manage our homes. (Titus 2:3-5) This may not seem like job with power but remember who hates the home. Satan. He hates every good thing that God made. Especially our home because it houses the family. And he wants in. Satan prowls around like a lion searching. (1 Peter 5:8) We must be on our guard. If you choose to sin or stay in sin, it leaves the gates open for the lion. If you get angry or bitter and don’t resolve it, if you can’t control lustful or sinful thoughts etc., you are leaving your home open for him.
I was reading an article (from a book called Gate-Keepers of the Home) about women guarding their homes and how to do it. It was beautiful and simple: We must match our conduct and home life with Philippians 4:8. Here it is in my own words.
Whatever is Noble: We must be women who are righteous, as well as, all other influences in our homes. The movies, music, pictures, magazines, books etc. should promote righteousness. If you are unsure if it’s virtuous, get rid of it.
Whatever is True: We must not lie, or deceive. There must be an openness in our homes that is pure and true. No deception or lies allowed. No dishonor!
Whatever is Pure: Do not allow anything into your home that is not pure. Guard your Internet if you have it. I have heard that in the U.S. boys (starting at the age of 10) are looking at inappropriate material. Guard your T.V. if you have one. Even some commercials I have seen when we go to someone’s house are very provocative and are not innocent. Music is also something you must sensor. Don’t let your kids listen to songs about promiscuity and immorality. In the past we have even had to stop listening to certain Christian radio stations due to their talking/ramblings in-between songs. Ask the Lord what he wants you and your kids to listen to.
Whatever is Lovely: Is the essence of your house lovely? What about your attitude, your décor, your media? Or are they sensual and sinful? Take note and look around. Listen to the way you talk to your kids and spouse. Make your homes atmosphere lovely.
Whatever is Admirable, Excellent, & Praiseworthy: The things and attitudes in your home should in some way exalt the Lord. I love walking into a fellow believers home and feel the coziness, closeness, and love. Look at your life and see if it matches Scripture. If it doesn’t, ask God to show you what you need to change and how to do it. If you think it does match, awesome, but continue to ask God to show you areas you may need to change.
Make every effort to guard your homes. We are raising the future generation.
