Getting Used To Living Without Running Water

God is unfolding his plans for us here in Guatemala. We are very excited to see how everything pans out. But as God is unfolding His will for us we are adjusting to a new place. When you live in America, all constant electricity and running water is taken for granted. Even when we lived in Mexico for awhile we had hot showers. Here are the top things we are getting used to… No… 1.) Glass windows– “fresh” air is a constant. Unfortunately this makes mosquitoes, flies, and other bugs a constant too. 2.) Flushing Toilet– Since we do not have running water we...

The Blessing of a Baby

Babies are a sweet gift whether by natural means or adoption. This is a short story on the amazing hand of God over the adoption of our 6th baby, Rubyjane Dodd.   It was 2006. Jared and I started our adoption journey because of our love of children. We had two kids but felt like adoption was in our future. We filled out applications and we were approved but we were going to soon be moving to the Philippians and our church elders felt like we should wait. Amy’s parents, during her junior year of high school, decided to get rid of it to use the money towards a better avenue: a mission’s family. This made a lasting impression. But we loved to buy movies and get a movie from blockbuster often. Then the economical ‘Redbox’ came out. In May of 2013 my wife and I decided to sell our DVDs and to fast for one year from Redbox.  For us, this meant giving up movies/t.v. altogether.  Since we didn’t have...

Mexico Fun

There is nothing like learning about something close up. Jared and our two oldest sons (Jared II & Isaiah)  were able to travel to Mexico last week. They visited not only Guanajuato, our old stomping ground, but also the  2,000+ year old city of Teotihuacán.  They had a great time and traveled by car, plane, and bus in order to get their back.           Quick Itinerary:  Day 1: Travel 17 hours via car with cousins (Phil and Rosie) from Marble Falls to Leon Mexico.   Day 2: Go from Leon to Guanajuato to see the city and visit our Mexican family. Day 3: Go to Mexico...
